Jose Mourinho omitted Dele Alli by the team for Tottenham HotspurThe game against Burnley, second report. He knows that the Portuguese has a ruthless side and is not afraid to handle the ax if necessary and it seems that the Englishman is his last victim.
Alli rose amidst ranks at Milton Keynes Dons and was taken to Tottenham Hotspur by the former manager. Mauricio Pochettino in the summer of 2015. The Englishman actually signed for the Lilywhites in January 2015 but was immediately loaned out for the rest of the 2014/15 season.
Alli touched the ground at Tottenham in his debut season, scoring 10 goals from 46 appearances in all competitions. He followed up with 22 goals from 50 games in his second season and was one of the most brilliant young talents in England at one point in time.
Alli’s ability to score goals has made him a nice addition to the team, but in recent seasons, the Englishman has failed to find the consistency needed to succeed at the highest level of football.
Mourinho’s arrival at Tottenham Hotspur in the middle of last season seemed to spark a renaissance, however, it turned out to be a false dawn. Now it seems that the patience of the Portuguese with Alli is over.
Alli is also set to complete 90 minutes for Tottenham this season
Alli started Tottenham’s first game of the season, a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Everton where he was brought to the break. However, he hasn’t reached the Spurs starting in eleven since.
He was completely sidelined by the team of the day against Southampton and Newcastle United but made the bench against Manchester United, reaching the 69th minute. Last weekend, however, he did not make the team of the day against West Ham United.
The Englishman is also set to complete 90 minutes for Tottenham Hotspur this season. His only other start for Spurs this term was in the Europa League against Shkendija Tetovo, where he played 60 minutes.
Alli left the bench early in the second half against Maccabi Haifa in the Europa League and scored his first goal of the season.
Alli has struggled to impress Mourinho this season and it is said the Portuguese will lift him from the Tottenham side traveling to Turf Moor.
The 24-year-old now faces a tough challenge to regain his place even in the national team, in time for Euro 2021. Unless he can find his return in Mourinho’s good books, a January move away from Spurs could be their best bet to return to the England squad.
