India captain Virat Kohli has acknowledged that he and his team have no indication that Rohit Sharma will not travel with them to Australia. Former bowler in India Ashish nehra it sparked growing controversy, and blamed the lack of communication between the early brass.
Rohit Sharma was initially left out of the team for all three formats to face Australia due to a muscle injury, before being added to the Test facility. But to the team’s surprise, their vice-captain chose to return to the Mumbai post IPL 2020 and then work on the left thigh tendon at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Although the Supervisory Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement that Rohit Sharma wanted to stay close to his ailing father, Ashish Nehra seemed stunned by the captain of a team who did not know the whereabouts of his players.
“Like everyone else, I was surprised and disappointed. I don’t understand this. Speaking of a player like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli he says he knows nothing. For me, this is very sad. That shouldn’t happen today. The technology is available to you and interested people should communicate correctly in this case, ”Nehra told Cricbuzz.
“We have no information on why Rohit Sharma does not want to go to Australia,” Virat Kohli said.
At an online press conference on the eve of the first ODI, Virat Kohli said everyone was expecting Rohit Sharma to embark on the flight to Sydney, especially after he missed a 51 68 ball in the IPL final.
Notably, sources familiar with the matter say “no one in the BCCI knows who asked Rohit to go to the NCA.”
“Well, before we had the selection meeting in Dubai, we received an email two days earlier saying that Rohit is not available for selection due to the injury he suffered during the IPL. He mentioned a period of rest and rehabilitation for two weeks, and he said the pros and cons of the injury were explained to Rohit and he understood that ”.
“It’s the information we received by mail but then he played in the IPL. We all thought he would be on the flight to Australia which he wasn’t and we have no information on why he it doesn’t fly to Australia, ”elaborated Virat Kohli.
India has lost the first ODI of 66 races, and it can be said that visitors lack the presence and experience of Rohit Sharma at the top of the order.
