Howie Kussoy picks home college football Saturday at CAPS:
Maryland (+11.5) on INDIANA
Michael Penix Jr. it was rightly celebrated after throwing for 491 yards and five touchdowns in Ohio State’s disappointing press, but the canceled back-to-back games is all that paused Taulia Tagovailoa’s praise. the Maryland, who threw for 676 yards eight total touchdowns in their last two starts.
Kentucky (+24) in FLORIDA
Sure, the Wildcats haven’t scored a touchdown in two of their last three games, but the Gators are the perfect panacea for any offensive offense. The SEC’s top-ranked defense will also give Heisman’s crowded field the chance to return to current top runner Kyle Trask.
Pittsburgh (+24) over CLEMSON
I’m not sure Dabo Swinney has enough time to prepare. He’s already spent most of the week there insulting the State of Florida for making health and safety a priority.
Northwest (-13.5) over MICHIGAN STATE
The nation’s most lucrative team assumes the best defense of the Big Ten. After four straight wins of 10 points or less, the Wildcats (5-0) pitched against the 123rd ranked offense in the nation, accounting for just seven total points in their last two games.
ALABAMA (-24) over Auburn
Gus Malzahn’s three wins against Nick Saban are the biggest of any other coach in the country in the past seven seasons. In two of the last three years, Auburn has pulled off an unsatisfactory Iron Bowl. But the series looks different in Tuscaloosa, where Alabama has won the last four games by an average of more than 27 points. Heisman contender Mac Jones has a lot to look forward to after his two pick-sixs against the Tigers that kept Alabama out of the playoffs for the first time last season.
TEXAS A&M (-13.5) on Lsu
Revenge is a best served dish against the nation’s third-largest defensive team. After throwing for 92 yards and three interceptions in last season’s 50-7 draw at Baton Rouge, senior quarterback Aggies Kellen Mond will enjoy an unrecognizable LSU secondary and has one of the best performances of his career.
SOUTH CAROLINA (+21.5) over Georgia
Maybe JT Daniels is finally ready to live up to his potential. But the former five-star recruit also has a lot to show for entering his second game since an erratic 2018 season at USC.
Best Bets: Ohio State, Maryland, Oklahoma
This season (best bets): 85-74-1 (15-17-1)
Record 2014-19: 772-756-13
