Everyone knows that Michael Jordan has been insanely competitive during his NBA career. The Bulls legend’s passion for victory and hatred of losing pushed him to capture six championships and elevate him to rare air.
But was Jordan able to regain intensity and enjoy a game among friends after leaving court? No, of course not.
During an appearance on the Podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend”, Anthony Anderson explained how his relationship with Jordan began over a wild game of dominoes. The “black-ish” star told O’Brien that he first escaped to Jordan years ago at a hotel opening in the Bahamas. Anderson had brought with him custom Jumpman domains with him on the trip, so he asked Jordan if he would like to meet and play.
“[Jordan] he said, “How did you get those?” I was like, ‘Don’t do it like I had it. I got it because I consider myself the MJ of dominoes, and I’d love to play you, “Anderson said.” And he turned to my wife and said, “Honey, I suggest you go to the bank and get as much money as you can. Because after I whipped your ass, I won’t be able to provide for you and yours. kids. ‘I was just like – I just wanted a bone-chilling game with my basketball hero! “
Anderson’s wife, Alvina Stewart, closed all discussions over a cash bet, but Jordan agreed to play the next day. Anderson said the game involved himself, Jordan, Ahmad Rashad and anyone else that Jordan had brought to the table.
“I just have this regular game with him,” Anderson said. “I’m not talking trash. I’m just excited to be in this man’s fear. MJ’s talking about cash s-, Conan. He’s talking about my mom. He’s talking cash trash, and I have to sit here and just take it.”
The group was playing at 150, and Jordan led the table with 125. Anderson, who was 45, finally saw the opportunity to start sending Jordan back, and the momentum immediately changed in his direction.
“I have dominoes, and Jordan plays after me,” Anderson said. “So I turn to Jordan and say,‘ MJ, this is going to be the 25 hardest point you’ve ever had to mark in your life. Let’s go. “Now the gloves are off. I’m no longer afraid of this man. He was up there talking about my mom. I’m like ‘F- him.’ OK, that’s how he’s going to fall.
“Conan, I’m starting to rub my ass in dominoes. Conan, don’t mark another point. I talk so much rubbish that before dominoes, I say, ‘Oh my God, MJ, I wish I and my wife could go up to upstairs and make another creature now so we’ll name him MJ just so he can relive this moment now. ‘And my child, when he was old, would say,’ Father, why did you call me MJ? ‘ And I’ll say, “To relive the moment I just whipped my ass. Boom! Domino, motherf-er!”
Anderson told O’Brien that he then beat Jordan again, which created a awkward situation. Anderson and Jordan were stranded on the island for the next three days, so they couldn’t avoid each other. Every time they crossed paths, Jordan refused to talk to Anderson.
“Every time we take a picture or a group photo he asks – no, I take it. He doesn’t ask me. He tells me to get out of the picture,” Anderson said. “No one would know who I was though. So, that’s how he treated me for the next few days, and that’s how our friendship started. He’s my friend.”
